Benjamin, "BeBe" Winans, hails from the legendary Winans family, known as the first family of gospel music. BeBe is known as an inspirational, R&B, and Gospel vocalist, songwriter, and producer. BeBe has won six Grammy Awards (three solo and three with CeCe Winans), ten Dove Awards, six Stellar Awards, three NAACP Awards and a Soul Train Award.
Born the seventh of ten children, BeBe began his career in the mid 80's as a background singer with his famous brothers, The Winans and for the "Praise The Lord" television show. Teaming up with his sister CeCe Winans, the duo recorded one album for The PTL Club before branching out to record together exclusively. The dynamic duo amassed an amazing run of hit songs, released platinum-selling albums and scored a plethora of number one hit singles. After five successful gold and platinum recordings including, BeBe & CeCe Winans, Heaven, Different Lifestyles, First Christmas and Relationships, BeBe & CeCe moved forward to pursue their own solo endeavors in 1995.
BeBe delivered his self-titled solo debut album in 1997. The album featured the singles "In Harms' Way," "Thank You," and the international crossover hit "I Wanna Be the Only One" featuring British soul trio Eternal. His follow up Love & Freedom was released in 2000 and featured production from Warryn Campbell, Brian McKnight, Masters at Work and others. By 2003, BeBe had started his own record label, The Movement Group, and partnered with Still Waters. In 2005, BeBe released his third proper solo album Dream featuring the single "I Have A Dream." Cherch followed in 2007. BeBe has also recorded songs with such entertainers as Stevie Wonder and Whitney Houston.
In 2009 BeBe and CeCe launched their own record label entitled B&C Records, releasing Still, their first album together in 15 years. The R&B and Gospel icons are enjoying a remarkable career moment. In 2010, Still won two Grammy Awards and five Stellar Awards. Approaching gold sales status, the album features the Billboard chart topping single "Close To You," which BeBe penned several years ago, as well as the Grammy-winning "Grace." "Close To You" was named BMI's Most Performed Gospel Song of the Year and also earned the 2010 Dove Award for Urban Recorded Song of the Year.
Since the release of Still, BeBe and CeCe have done triumphant performances on Oprah, Good Morning America, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. On October 20, 2011, the magnificent brother-sister duo received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In October 2010, BeBe Winans launched his own weekly radio show on Sirius/XM Radio, The BeBe Experience.
As an actor, BeBe appeared in 2003's The Manchurian Candidate. BeBe recently served as one of the judges and executive producers on BET's "Sunday Best". In early 2008, BeBe returned to the theater co-starring alongside lifelong friend Chaka Khan (Sofia), as Harpo in the Broadway production of The Color Purple. In August 2011, BeBe played himself in a television motion picture for broadcast on The Gospel Music Channel in early 2012.
5/24/2012 - BeBe Winans Performs at Mayor Bloomberg's Fleet Week Breakfast
Multi- Grammy Award winning R&B/Gospel music superstar, BeBe Winans helped the city of New York kick off 2012 Fleet Week this morning at the official breakfast hosted at Gracie Mansion by Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Winans gave a riveting performance of both The National Anthem and “God Bless America” to the crowd of over 400 military veterans and active service men and women. Winans, who recently signed to record label, Razor & Tie, is set to release his new album America America on June 19th of this year. The album is comprised of nine classic songs including standards such as “America The Beautiful,” “Lift Every Voice,” and “The Star Spangled Banner,” along with three new songs written by Winans for the album including the beautifully hopeful title track and first single, “America America”, the upbeat “We’re The United States of America,” and the poignant “Ultimate Sacrifice,” dedicated to our troops. Legendary Grammy winner, singer, songwriter, producer and world-class performer, BeBe Winans is set to release a new project in 2012 that the artist hopes will inspire unity, and restore much needed pride to the nation. America America is an uplifting new collection of patriotic songs and a celebration of the heritage and history that we all share. In addition to nine songs that honor our nation and are works in the public domain, Winans has penned three new original songs- the first single “America America," “We're the United States of America," and the poignant “Ultimate Sacrifice.” The latter is a moving tribute to our troops, acknowledging and thanking them for the personal sacrifices they make each day to protect our freedoms. A video for the single, shot in New York City and Washington D.C., will be released in the coming weeks.
Best known as one-half of the celebrated gospel duo BeBe & CeCe Winans, siblings who are part of the Winans gospel music family royalty, BeBe Winans is also renown as a solo artist, who has worked with innumerable stars of the recording industry. He is the winner of six Grammy Awards, Ten Dove awards, six Stellar Awards, and Three NAACP Awards, among his many accomplishments. In addition to launching his own radio show-The BeBe Experience- on Sirius XM Radio in 2010, in the fall of 2011, Winans, along with sister CeCe, was honored with the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame Star. The duo’s 2010 album, Still, their first album as a duo in 15 years, is approaching Gold. The album and singles together appeared on eight charts in total including #2 on the Gospel Album Artists chart; #3 on the Best Gospel Album chart, as well as Top 25 honors on both the Independent Albums chart and Adult R&B Songs chart. Still won two Grammy Awards in 2011.
America America is BeBe Winans’ seventh solo release. It is inspired by the challenges millions of Americans now face on a daily basis. Throughout the album, Winans pours heart and soul into all-American classics including, “America the Beautiful,” “Lift Every Voice,” “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” and our national anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner.”
