RedCloud's mother was 18 years old when she gave birth to him. RedCloud was born in the South Bay of Los Angeles California. RedCloud's birth mother is from (Atotonilco / Huichol) Jalisco Mexico, his father belonged to the indigenous people of Chiapas (San Cristobal), sadly, RedCloud doesn't remember his father's face "Although he was probably remarkably handsome" jokes RedCloud. His birth mother struggled as a single mom, to support RedCloud in the rough neighborhood of Hawthorne, California. When RedCloud was only 8 months old, she made the decision to have him raised by what was then his "babysitters". They became his family and adopted him as one of their own. The only problem was that the majority of this family was knee deep involved in the Chicano Gang lifestyle. His Father, Uncles, cousins, brothers where all involved in gangs. RedCloud saw alot of the hardships and violence being involved in that culture.
In 1989, when he was in the 6th grade, he got jumped into the local gang "Lil Watts/Hawthorne Piru" by his peers on the blacktop of Yukon Intermediate School. A big influence in his life was his older brothers Kiko and Raul. They were ironically from a neighboring rival gang called "Lawndale 13", even more ironic was RedCloud’s fathers gang affiliation "Redondo 13" which only proves that the area you live in will most likely determine the gang affiliation your child will belong to, all of these gangs are bordering each other.
In 1989 RedCloud witnessed for the first time an art form called "hip hop". A couple of 8th grade boys had a public "Emcee battle" where they shouted obscenities and roasted each other in rhythmic patterns that made the surrounding crowd erupt with awe, laughter and praise. Even more shocking than that was what happened when the school bell rang- they embraced and walked away laughing, with each individual posse cheering each battle rapper on. RedCloud was immediately hooked and with that he began to write more and practice the improvised form of hip hop called "freestyle". By the time he was in 7th grade RedCloud had held his first gun, assisted in a car jacking and was ultimately arrested twice in that year of 1990 (once for stealing clothes in South Bay Galleria the other for Graffiti Vandalism).
In 1992 when RedCloud was finishing his 8th grade year of school his life changed forever. A school assembly took place that featured a hip hop group called "LPG" and speaker named Mike Rayo. This assembly was key to getting RedCloud out of the gang. The positivity through hip hop and the touching testimony of Mike Rayo struck the soul of RedCloud and he knew that this could be his last chance at a good life. After the assembly they handed him a flyer to the real show at a place called Del Aire Assembly of God. April 24th 1992, RedCloud accepted Jesus into his heart as his personal Lord and Savior. Two weeks later RedCloud made his decision and was brutally jumped out of the gang.
RedCloud entered the legendary riot filled Leuzinger High School with a clean slate. RedCloud continued to focus on his new love; freestyle hip hop, and what began as insults by ex friends and fellow gang members turned into praise. "That fool used to be from the hood" with a negative tone turned into "That fool used to be from the hood" with a positive tone. Hip Hop and Christ influence not only changed RedCloud but the people surrounding him as well.
RedCloud was selected and hand picked to join CSSSA (Cal State Summer School for the Arts) his sophomore year. The very same year he was a winner on Tha Baka Boyz freestyle competition The Roll Call on Power 106 and became "the guy to beat" at his high school. In 1996, RedCloud graduated high school (the first in his family), with honors in English. In 1996 RedCloud was a local at hip hop clubs that held weekly emcee battles (Ballistics, Project Blowed, The Good Life, Unity, Functions, Foundations and Elements) making 50 dollars on Thursday nights, 100 dollars on Sunday nights every so often. RedCloud made some noise in the underground scene with his group SHP (Seventh Heaven Planets) and caught the attention of Syntax Records in 1999.
Since then he has released 2 solo albums and has featured on numerous projects. RedCloud has moved approximately 40,000 units throughout his independent career. RedCloud's touring schedule is one that makes the major labels cringe - Over 250 shows combined in 2005 and 2006, with the possibility of 155 shows in 2007. His heart is for the indigenous people throughout North and South America. RedCloud has performed in 65% of all Indian reservations in the US and Canada (he prays he will reach 100% by the age of 33). RedCloud is now currently married. He found his sweetheart at the same church he dedicated his life at over a decade earlier (Del Aire Assembly of God). When he is not performing in your town he is fellowshipping at Del Aire Assembly of God in Hawthorne, Indian Revival Center in Bell or at First Nations Church in Santa Fe Springs.
