Original Classical–crossover meets inspirational worship aptly describes Mariette Davina’s musical style. Born in Leicester United Kingdom, and moving to South Africa at an early age, Mariette grew up desiring to become an opera singer. After many years of vocal training Mariette obtained her Music Degree specialising in Performance Opera at the University of South Africa and her Honours degree in Music at the University of Pretoria. However, during her Honours year Mariette’s desire to sing opera waned and she began to write her own unique, original music. Despite having failed composition at University with her lecturer telling her she would never be able to write anything worthwhile - Mariette landed a record deal in South Africa and released a secular album of mostly her own original music. The album was later nominated for best classical album in South Africa.
Mariette then felt very strongly that God was telling her to move back to the UK, where she ended up attending 3 years of Bible school. Here she developed a love for worship music and gained experience in leading worship and preaching, simultaneously discovering her gift for spontaneous worship. Mariette recorded a 10 track album of original songs at ICC studios in Eastbourne UK comprising of a culmination of original cross-classical music and inspirational worship.
Her album represents something new in the Christian market, with her classical roots and love for God strongly coming through the mass of orchestral string arrangements and haunting melodies. Her songs of encouragement are being embraced in both the Secular and Christian sectors. Her music video for the single ‘You Are Holy’ has recently been listed for broadcast on all the major Christian Television Networks in the UK and plans to shoot the next single for the track ‘Circles of Change’ are already underway. In an industry where there is so much musical similarity, Mariette is breaking the mould by presenting a fresh approach to worship and is fast being booked to minister through her unique musical style.
