Chris Sligh lived in Germany with his family for a decade, but now resides in Greenville, South Carolina. Chris is 29-years old and both of his parents are missionaries. He auditioned in Birmingham for season 6 of American Idol and he impressed the judges with his rendition of Seal's “Kiss From a Rose” and his good sense of humor. He started singing when he was in high school and toured with a band after studying at Bob Jones University. He came short of getting a degree in vocal performance. Unlike many other Idol Contestants, he doesn't do anything special before each performance; he just makes sure he visits the bathroom. He claims to be a “great kisser,” but can also cut it as a songwriter. He listens to Sheryl Crow, Fiona Apple, Freddie Mercury and Paul McCartney. Chris is happily married.
Chris Sligh was an early favorite of the judges on American Idol and was noted for his wit, personality and extensive knowledge of American Idol trivia, which he claimed to have learned while researching for hours at his job in South Carolina. He was eliminated from the competition on March 28, 2007, consequently becoming the 10th place singer in the sixth season.
Months after he got voted off the show, Chris Sligh announced that he had signed with Blanton Harrell Cook & Corzine, the management company that has handled Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith through their entire careers and now handles Bebo Norman, Aaron Shust and Point of Grace. He later ventured on a solo deal with Brash Music, an Atlanta-based independent label that is distributed through Warner Bros, in which he officially started working on his debut label album. In addition to pursuing his own music career, he is also serving as lead vocalist to the band Half Past Forever, which he rejoined after his American Idol stint.

10/1/2008 - American Idol's Chris Sligh Asks Fan to Create Their Own Video for His Hit Single "Empty Me"
NASHVILLE, TN....9/30/08..... As he wraps his nationwide, headline “Back to
School” tour this week, American Idol finalist Chris Sligh has asked his fans
to have some fun and help him create his next video, lip-syncing to the
original vocals for Sligh’s debut, top 10 AC hit single, “Empty Me.”
"’Empty Me’ is a special song, and I always knew that the video for the
song would need to be something special, too,” explains Sligh. “As we've seen
people react to the song, I knew I wanted the video to be something involving
the fans. I say this every night in concert, but this song is a simple
prayer that we should be praying whether you're a dog walker, a cheerleader,
the President of the United States or some chubby guy that was on American Idol
- to be emptied of ourselves so we can be filled with Christ. So, I want
dog walker, cheerleaders and maybe even the President (or maybe a candidate for
President) to video themselves doing cool stuff lip-syncing to my song!"
Video submissions can be made as of today through October 24th by emailing the
file to EmptyMeVideo@gmail.com
or by posting it to www.yousendit.com
and sending that link to EmptyMeVideo@gmail.com.
The length of each video submitted will be limited to 35 seconds, and depending
on the first letter of a fan’s last name, they’ll be asked to submit a video
for a certain portion of the song. Fans are encouraged to record in
non-traditional situations (in an elevator, in line at an amusement park, in
the back of class during a lecture, at the Washington Monument, at Mt.
Rushmore, at Grand Canyon, during a football game, while water-skiing, etc).
In addition, any quality video file is welcome, whether that be via use
of a cell phone or a broadcast quality camera. Full guidelines for submission
are available now at www.myspace.com/chrissligh,
www.brashmusic.com, and/or
Sligh’s blog, www.frommymindtoyoureyes.blogspot.com.
Sligh’s follow-up single to “Empty Me,” “Arise,” has just been serviced to
Christian AC radio and hits the New and Active chart at both R&R AC Monitor
and Indicator charts this week.
As Sligh’s debut CD,”Running Back to You” became one of the best-selling
Christian album on iTunes ®, the project that has wowed critics from USA Today
to CCMmagazine.com also had the highest debut on Christian SoundScan in it’s
first week as well. Named as one of Entertainment Weekly’s
“Best Idol Auditions Ever,” (http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20007164_20008532_20174767,00.html),
Sligh auditioned for American Idol more or less on a whim. To his
surprise, his performance swept him onto a fast track to the final
rounds. His willingness to take chances, his ironic wit, and his
startlingly powerful vocals embedded him into the popular imagination,
while his distinctive blend of talent, humor, confidence, and
unpredictability led to an exchange with Simon Cowell that delighted the
other judges, host Ryan Seacrest, and much of America. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3LHQRTFTj8&feature=related

).An official American Idol commentator for Entertainment Weekly online
during this past season, Sligh operated on a three week rotating schedule
with two other commentators (Jon Peter Lewis and Nadia Turner), and wrote
funny and informative commentaries through the lens of his experiences on
American Idol.
