Nichole Nordeman Song Available For Purchase Online and Proceeds Going To Family To Help Maintain Baby’s Health
NASHVILLE (February 15, 2006) - - April is ‘National Donate Life Month’, and the personal story of baby Miles Coulson and his failing heart and need for a donor touched millions across the country last year after a feature story ran in Reader’s Digest. Catching a rare virus while only two-weeks-old, the parents of little Miles were told that their son would need a new heart to stay alive. He was then placed on the Berlin Heart, a tiny pump that all hoped would keep him going as long as possible. Though infant hearts are rare in terms of transplants, it was not long before another young baby boy fell victim to tragedy, and in bittersweet circumstance the loss of his life ended up saving that of baby Miles.
Having met his parents through a friend, the story of Miles is one that award winning singer/songwriter Nichole Nordeman found especially heart wrenching as a new mother herself. Nordeman was kept updated on his condition through email updates sent around to friends and family, and was soon inspired to write the song “Miles” in his honor, and in honor of the baby who lost his life and the parents who gifted Miles with their sons’ heart.
“So many of my own middle of the night feedings with my son Charlie became an opportunity to sit quietly in a rocking chair and beg God to save this little life,” recalls Nordeman of her feelings upon learning of Miles’ story. “I wrote the song about the journey of both moms. We ask ourselves, how is it that one person’s ‘thank You’ is another person’s ‘how could You?’ And each day, for all involved, must surely be an hourly exercise in trust and surrender.”
Much like the story, the song is an emotional expression of sadness and hope, reflective of Nordeman’s thought-provoking lyrical style. Nordeman, signed on EMI CMG’s Sparrow Records, has been the recipient of eight Gospel Music Association Dove Awards throughout her career, and was ASCAP’s 2004 Songwriter of the Year. ‘Miles,’ is available in retail outlets on the Special Edition CD of BRAVE by Nichole Nordeman and is also available for purchase/download on Sony and WalMart web retailers and will soon be ready for download on iTunes, with all proceeds going to help Miles Coulson and his family.
Today, baby Miles is doing well, having recently celebrated his first birthday, and shows no sign of rejecting his transplanted heart. Dove Award-winning artist Nichole Nordeman, having just wrapped a successful headline tour of her own, will be a special guest on Casting Crowns' 46-city Lifesong Tour from February 9 through May 7, 2006. Nordeman will be supporting her fourth album, BRAVE, one of the best-reviewed projects of this year.
"Disc of the day, hands down," declared Music Row magazine upon the May 2005 release of BRAVE.
SongTouch.com wrote: "Marriage and motherhood have added a new dimension to this already multi-faceted singer-songwriter, and she seems more certain than ever before of who she is as an artist and what she wants to communicate. With BRAVE, Nordeman confidently - and successfully - branches out and proves she's much more than brave. She's fearless."
Following the tremendous success of her 2002 release, WOVEN & SPUN, Nordeman took an extended time off for the birth of her first child. The artist's return this year to recording and performing have been as rewarding to her as to the fans.
"Hitting the road after a couple years off was a real joy," said Nordeman following her recent Brave Tour. "I'm not sure I've ever enjoyed performing live as much as I did over the last couple months. It felt as though God breathed some new life into my music."
Nordeman's music can be heard in several places right now. She's a featured artist on the popular MUSIC INSPIRED BY THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA as well as a holiday compilation entitled CHRISTMAS ANGELS, also featuring Alison Krauss and Sparrow Records label mate Bethany Dillon.
