As the hit title track “Blink” from Revive leaps into the Top 15 songs in the country on the CHR radio format, the Dove-nominated vibrant, pop/rock outfit announces the June 22 release date of its anticipated sophomore Blink. Produced by the 2010 Dove Award-winning “Producer of the Year” team, Jason Ingram (Brandon Heath, Tenth Avenue North) and Rusty Varenkamp (Bebo Norman, Rush Of Fools), Blink grapples with the art of living in the moment while keeping a focused eye on the finish line.
“The theme birthed from a discussion about making a record that focuses on what matters in this life,” lead vocalist Dave Hanbury says. “We thought ‘chasing what matters’ is a great theme for the record: Your life is over in a blink. What are you gonna do with it?”
Coming off the 44-city WinterJam tour playing in front of more than 403,000 in attendance, and recently earning its first Dove Award nomination with recognition in the coveted New Artist of the Year category for the 41st Annual GMA Dove Awards, Revive’s momentous climb continues with “Blink” gaining weekly on both Christian AC and CHR radio formats. The single moves up to No. 13 at CHR, and is playing in top markets including KLTY/Dallas, KSGN/Riverside CA, KXOJ/Tulsa, WJQK/Grand Rapids, WBFJ/Greensboro, WDJC/Birmingham, WCRJ/Jacksonville, AIR1 network, WBVM/Tampa, KXWA/Denver, WBSN/New Orleans, and KAIM/Honolulu.
Paul Goldsmith, Air1 network’s assistant program director/music director, says about “Blink,” “This song became an instant hit with Air1 listeners.”
Kris Love, music director for Love 89.1 in Knoxville, Tenn., adds, “Revive’s ‘Blink’ is one of the fastest connecting singles we’ve had in a long while, we’ve had immediate and steady phones since adding it and the testing confirms that the song is a hit for us.”
With the new sophomore project, Revive hooks fans with melody and atmosphere, mixing its arena rock perspectives and bittersweet tones with lyrical depth. The group worked itself hard on the songwriting for Blink, writing and recording the bulk of the project in a two-month window. The album’s opener, “Almost Missed This Moment,” couches its be-present-now theme in a catchy chorus and thriving backbeat. “Blink,” “Something Glorious” and “Hold On Love” help knit the theme together, while integrating the celebratory anthem “Love Found Me,” until the album concludes with the thoughtful “Welcome To Eternity.”
During this new season, Revive also underwent its first lineup change. Original guitarist Tyler Hall moved back to Australia with his wife. In the midst of the recording sessions, Revive recruited guitarist AJ Cheek, whose previous band, Chattanooga’s Nevertheless, had just dissolved. Cheek meshed quickly with his three new band mates, and his recruitment adds an additional layer of meaning in Blink, coinciding with a renewal of the band’s outlook on its creativity and its day-to-day existence. Cheek recalls, “It was crazy how easy it was to transition into playing with these guys.”
Since its foundation in Australia, where the original four members all attended the same church, Revive has been an exercise in trust. The band moved 9,200 miles to Atlanta in 2007— having no place to stay—intensely focused on a long-term vision on making a meaningful difference with its music. In fact, Revive views Blink as an apt extension of their collective personality—a short-term adventure lived in the moment that fits perfectly with an purposeful long-term goal.
On the road, Revive will play 50 shows between May 15, and Sept 19, at summer festivals and camps, and will join Hawk Nelson and Britt Nicole on a national tour this fall. For more on Revive, tour dates and to view the band’s video blogs from the road, please visit www.reviveband.com.
(Nashville, Tenn.) Dec.4, 2008 –Today, Essential Records announces the signing of Australia’s latest musical export, high-energy pop/rock band Revive. In partnership with GRAMMY-winning group Third Day’s Consuming Fire Productions, the band of four from Sydney relocated to the U.S. in 2007 to pursue a career in Christian music. Championed and mentored over the last year by the members of Third Day, Revive will release its 12-song label debut titled Chorus of the Saints on March 10, 2009.
Third Day’s lead singer, Mac Powell, co-produced the album with Revive. Chorus of the Saints combines Revive’s passionate musicianship with its direct emphasis on well-crafted lyrics. The vibrant pop/rock outfit is anchored by Dave Hanbury’s charismatic lead vocals which contain an element of drama and spiritual passion that commands attention.
Powell notes, “I can’t wait for the USA to hear this new album. It has the ability to make you want to groove, or move you to tears in your own living room.”
Third Day bassist Tai Anderson adds, “Revive has everything that I look for in a new artist: great musicianship and songs, a passionate drive and work ethic, and the ability to really connect live with an audience. Whether in the studio, in concert or backstage, they listen to the lessons we have learned and apply them quickly to their own band. Revive has set the standard for what I will look for in future Consuming Fire productions.”
Through its music, Revive is about ministry and reminding people of the message in Psalm 85. “It says, ‘He will revive their hearts.’ We love that,” says Hanbury. “We want people to be refreshed, like what our name means, to be revived. It would be great if someone would listen to this CD, and feel like they could walk closer with the Lord.”
Having toured extensively in Australia with 3 acclaimed albums already to their name, Revive is fast connecting with fans on tour with Third Day. After already playing more than 45 dates with the headliner in 2008, Revive will play 35 cities in spring 2009 as part of Third Day’s Revelation Tour, yielding more opportunities for American audiences to fall in love with Australia’s latest musical export.
Dave Hanbury says, “It’s an honor to share the stage with a band that has been so influential on the industry as well as our own lives. So far American audiences have been great to us and we can’t wait to visit every corner of this enormous land!”
Revive got its start more than four years ago when Dave Hanbury (lead vocals), Tyler Hall (guitar), Mike Tenkate (drums), and Rich Thompson (bass) were at church together in Sydney, Australia, playing shows for local youth groups and schools. The guys first caught the attention of frontman Mac Powell during Third Day’s “Down Under” tour of Australia in 2007 at which Revive performed in an opening slot. Now in the USA, Revive has played alongside Sanctus Real and DecemberRadio on Third Day’s 2008 spring tour, and most recently with NEEDTOBREATHE on the “Third Day Live” fall tour.
