Bringing a soulful touch to his gospel roots, singer and pianist Smokie Norful has graced the stage with his music and charm for years. But it was in 2002 that he released his breakout album, I Need You Now . Raised in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and later, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Smokie earned his Bachelor's Degree in History from the University of Arkansas--Pine Bluff.
Called to the ministry in 1997, Smokie founded the Victory Cathedral Worship Center in Bolingbrook, Illinois, in 2005. With the blessings of God, Pastor Smokie Norful has spread the good news all over the world with not only his church, but his amazing musical gifts. He received a Grammy Award for Contemporary Soul Gospel Album of the Year in 2005 for his album, Nothing Without You , on the EMI Gospel label. He has been honored with a prestigious NAACP Image Award nomination, as well as countless other awards and nominations for his music.
His live performances include: a concert for former President George W. Bush, performances at the Trumpet Awards, the BET Awards, the Stellar Awards, Soul Train, the New Orleans Jazz Festival and many other concerts and events. He hosted and performed at the Dove Awards and is an active and in demand clinician and keynote speaker. He was also inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame. Smokie and his wife Carla raise their three wonderful children, while he continues to spread the word of God, as well as speak, teach, perform and compose music.
