When asked about his music, Chris Tomlin states that his goal has always been just to write songs that "people want to sing and need to sing." Its a fitting goal because when you realize that you have been saved by a loving God, and your forgiveness was free, there's nothing you'll want more than to sing about it. You'll feel different, like you are part of something more, something bigger than yourself. That's when you can fall on your knees and worship Him with all you've got. After all, we were made for it.
Made to Worship Lyrics- By Chris Tomlin
Before the day, before the light
Before the world revolved around the sun
God on high stepped down into time
And wrote the story of His love for everyone
He has filled our hearts with wonder
So that we always remember
You and I were made to worship, you and I are called to love
You and I are forgiven and free
You and I embrace surrender, you and I choose to believe
Then you and I will see who we were meant to be
All we are and all we have
Is all a gift from God that we receive
Brought to life we open up our eyes
To see the majesty and glory of the King
He has filled our hearts with wonder
So that we always remember
You and I were made to worship, you and I are called to love
You and I are forgiven and free
You and I embrace surrender, you and I choose to believe
Then you and I will see who we were meant to be
And even the rocks cry out and even the Heavens shout
At the sound of His holy name
So let every voice sing out, and let every knee bow down
He's worthy of all our praise
You and I were made to worship, you and I are called to love
You and I are forgiven and free, yeah
When you and I embrace surrender, you and I choose to believe
Then you and I will see, you and I will see
You and I were made to worship, you and I are called to love
You and I are forgiven and free, yeah
You and I embrace surrender, you and I choose to believe
Then you and I will see who we were meant to be
Yeah, we were meant to be
You and I, you and I, yeah, yeah
Who we were meant to be
Lyric Meditation
Every once in awhile I will happen to catch a sunset or stop for just a minute to gaze at the stars. Life is so busy that it's easy to miss such things, to rush past them. It is in those moments of pause that I remember, that I recognize, the sheer power of the God who painted those sunsets and flung those stars. I can feel his love through the beauty he has set before me. And my heart is filled with wonder. In his song, Made to Worship, Chris Tomlin speaks of this wonder. He tells us that it was put there by God so we would recognize His love and power... that before "we" all began, there was a design, a gift being planned that would save us all. When we receive this gift we also accept the responsibility of passing it on to others. We are "called to love" as we have been loved, to forgive as we have been forgiven, and to believe in the One who believed that what He had created was worth the trip to the cross. It is when we embrace that belief that we become all that we were meant to be.
