Top 10 Christian Songs About Strength

There are many uplifting Christian songs about strength to encourage us in times of need. Here we have gathered ten of the best worship songs about strength.

#10 Strong Enough (Matthew West)

Inspired by the words found in Philippians 4:13, Matthew West is both the songwriter and the recording artist for this upbeat reminder of how helpless we can be without the strength of Christ. His focus is totally on God when he sings: “Cause I'm broken down to nothing. But I'm still holding on to the one thing -- You are God and You are strong when I am weak”. Praise Him for that!

#9 It is Well with My Soul (Horatio Gates Spafford, John Campbell & Philip Paul Bliss)

When I hear this great hymn of faith I cannot help but meditate upon the strength and power of the cross. Without Jesus I am nothing … with Him, I can claim that “It is well, it is well with my soul” no matter what life deals me. Hallelujah!

Bible Truth: For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness, but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18)

#8 Lead Me (Chris Rohman, Jason Ingram & Matt Hammitt)

This is a great song written by a man who calls upon the Lord for His strength to lead his family in the ways of the Lord. It is a plea from a husband, father, and child of God who re-dedicates his life to the Lord. He asks the Lord to help him to prioritize his time so that everything that he does is pleasing to God. You can find this prayerful ballad on the album entitled “Pieces of a Real Heart” by Sanctus Real.

#7 Lord Reign in Me (Brenton Brown)

This has been a favorite in many church praise sets since the 1990s. It is a prayer to the Lord to ask Him to continually reign in every part of the Christian’s life. It is about not only choosing to have Jesus be your Savior but also surrendering your life to Him as the All-Powerful Lord of all.

Here is a pretty video that you can sing along with:

#6 Standing on the Promises (Ken Berg & Russell Kelso Carter)

When you can stand on anything it must be very strong! This great hymn of faith paints a picture of how strong the promises of the Lord are. In my opinion, the essence of strength is summed up in the following lyrics:

Standing on the promises I cannot fail
List'ning ev'ry moment to the Spirits call
Resting in my Savior as my all in all
Standing on the promises of God

#5 The Well (Mark Hall & Matthew West)

Co-written by powerhouses Mark Hall and Matthew West, this song is included on Casting Crowns’ “Come to the Well” album (2011). It could be a great invitation song in church or just one that you sing at a gathering. It speaks to the strength that is found when you come to Jesus. When you are thirsty you become weak --- but when you come to the Well (Jesus) you find the strength to leave all that baggage behind.

Bible Truth: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

#4 The Hurt and The Healer (Barry Graul, Bart Millard, Jim Bryson, Mike Scheuchzer, Nathan Cochran & Robby Shaffer)

A relatively new release at the time of this writing, the band MercyMe sings of the One whom we call Healer. The lyrics take us into the weakness we feel when we are hurting and need to fall into the hands of the Almighty, I see strength in the lyrics of the bridge:

It's the moment when humanity
Is overcome by majesty
When grace is ushered in for good
And all our scars are understood

When mercy takes its rightful place
And all these questions fade away
When out of weakness we must bow
And hear You say
It's over now

#3 You are my All in All (Dennis Jernigan)

Dennis Jernigan is the grandson of a Baptist preacher. He grew up on a farm and learned to play the piano by ear because there were no music teachers near to his rural hometown. He considers his godly grandmother to be one of the most influential people in his life. She often talked of the importance of having a relationship with Jesus and not just “getting saved”.

As a young man, he was tempted into believing the lie that homosexuality is a normal way of life and became personally involved in sexual sin. It was not until the day that he attended a Christian concert and was introduced to worship music that he surrendered his life to Jesus. His newfound love of the Lord convinced him to share his personal story with others but not before he had long hidden it from some of the closest people in his life, including his wife.

In 1989 Dennis wrote, “You are my All in All” after being inspired at one of his early morning prayer meetings. It has become a favorite and even today is sung in many churches. The message in this song is simple and clear: Jesus is the source of everything. Seek Jesus and you will have the strength to do any and everything. My favorite lyrics from the song are:

Seeking you as a precious jewel
Lord, to give up I'd be a fool,
You are my all in all...

#2 You Are my Strength (Reuben Morgan)

Made popular by Hillsong United this worship song sings the glory of the Lord. It not only praises Him for His strength but for the hope, grace, and love that comes from Him to Lift us up when we need that perfect strength. Enjoy the video below of this lovely and worshipful song:

#1 His Strength is Perfect (Jerry Salley & Steven Curtis Chapman)

Bible Truth: I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. (Philippians 4:13)

My favorite Christian song about strength was written back in 1988. The first couple lines of this well-loved and popular praise song speak the words of the Scripture and my own personal life verse. And then the chorus reminds us over and over again how perfect the Lord’s strength is. There is no weakness for those that are in Christ. I love the lyrics of the 1st verse most:

Sample Lyrics:

I can do all things through Christ
Who gives me strength
But sometimes I wonder
What He can do through me

No great success to show
No glory on my own
Yet in my weakness
He is there to let me know
