Album: Remedy
While a departure from A Collision, the David Crowder Band’s latest release is still something worth picking up for your CD collection. With moving lyrics and a variety of sounds and musical styles, the DCB offers songs that will please almost all listeners on Remedy.
The overall theme of the album is how God’s constant presence is what heals us. The album opens with a formulaic praise & worship song, “The Glory of it All.” The repetition of the lyrics makes singing along pretty effortless. The song feels like it is building to something (especially at the end) but never quite makes it.
“Can You Feel It?” and “We Won’t Be Quiet” are heavily synthesized, driving rock songs that will have you bopping along with them. Listen carefully to “We Won’t Be Quiet” to hear the guest guitar played by Ted Nugent. Another couple of catchy, upbeat tunes on the album are “Everything Glorious” and “…Neverending…” Both titles pretty much describe exactly what each song is about.
“Never Let Go” is a prayer of thanksgiving for the unchanging nature of God and the addition of a new chorus to the traditional hymn “O For A Thousand Tongues” gives it a new feel. The title track examines the difference between us and of God (Here we are/the broken and used/mistreated/abused/here we are and Here You are/The beautiful one/who came like a Son/here you are) and how He is the one who will save us from our hurts. Finally, the album concludes with the mellow “Surely We Can Change” which is a call to all believers to reach out beyond the walls of their church and share the remedy with those who are still hurting.
Remedy will most likely leave you wanting more (especially if you have listened to the other DCB albums which were lengthier) but you won’t have any problem hitting the play button and starting the CD over. You may find you get more out of the album with each additional listen.
