When asked, Rick doesn't remember not singing. He grew up singing to his parents' favorites, which ranged from bands like: The Beatles and Neil Young, to Tom Petty. It wasn't until high school though, when he sang for his first rock band, that something really clicked inside. It wasn't long after the band went seperate ways that Rick took up learning to play the guitar from friends and anyone who would teach him. It was the rising era of grunge, so naturally, Rick became the guy at the party or at friends' houses, in the corner chair, being asked to play songs from Bush, Green Day, Nirvana, Matchbox 20, Live, Stone Temple Pilots, etc. It was through all of this that Rick started writing his own material and unknowingly began a journey. "Along the way, I've found that my music has become an expression of the faith that has defined me. It's taken a couple of bands, tours and recordings, but It's all helped me come to a better understanding of who I am as a musician... as a person ultimately. If people connect with my music, then I feel I've done what I've set out to do. I just want to be real and connect with people". says Rick. At times you will hear influences of Rob Thomas and even hints of Ed Kowalczyk (lead singer of Live). Fans of Jeremy Camp and Vertical Horizon to Nickelback will dig Rick Mugrage's sound. ...
