Winter is coming, or already here if you live in one of the northern states! It’s a good time to start adding television shows and movies to your Netflix queue as you plan family movie nights. There are quite a few family musicals available that are appropriate for the entire family. Here are 10 good family musicals on Netflix Instant. All of the movies include a large portion of singing, but the format varies per film.
10. High School Musical 2 (TV G)
In High School Musical 2 Troy begins working at Ryan and Sharpay’s country club and other doors open for him so he starts hanging out with wealthy friends. Chad doesn’t want Troy to forget his friends and Gabriella also has concerns. Netflix users have given this musical 3.4 stars out of 5.
9. Babes in Toyland (G)
Babes in Toyland is a Christmas classic. Many fairytale characters come together in this cute movie as Tom the Piper’s Son is captured the night before his wedding to Mary Quite Contrary. Tom goes on quite the adventure to find his way back to Toyland. Netflix users have given the movie 3.5 stars out of 5.
8. Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure (G)
Following the style of High School Musical and High School Musical 2, Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure is all about Sharpay trying to make it onto Broadway in New York. Her dog ends up with the big start to his career. Netflix users rate this musical at 3.6 stars out of 5.
7. Shrek the Musical (G)
I was a little skeptical of Shrek the Musical at first because the movies aren’t exactly appropriate for younger children. The musical is different from the movies and the Broadway version did a great job capturing what being an ogre means to Shrek. Netflix users give Shrek the Musical a rating of 3.6 stars out of five.
6. Camp Rock 2 – The Final Jam (TV Movie)
Mitchie is heading back to Camp Rock and she can’t wait to see her crush while spending the summer making music. She soon learns that Axel Turner, a famous music producer, has opened his own camp next to Camp Rock. Camp Star looks more enticing and many campers switch over to the new camp, but Mitchie decides to stay true to Camp Rock. Netflix users have given Camp Rock 2 – The Final Jam 3.8 stars out of 5.
5. The Nightmare Before Christmas (PG)
Jack Skellington decides to conquer Christmas in Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. It’s available to stream instantly on Netflix users have given the movie 3.9 stars out of 5. Danny Elfman is the voice of many of the characters, including Jack Skellington’s singing voice, Barrel and the Cloud with the Tear Away Face. Chris Sarandon is the main voice of Jack Skellington and Catherine O’Hara is the voice of Sally.
4. Teen Beach Movie (TV Movie)
Chances are high you have seen this musical if you have kids. Teen Beach Movie is about two teenagers who find their way to the filming of a 1960’s beach party, one that plays a big role in their own relationship. Netflix users have given it 3.9 stars out of 5.
3. Lemonade Mouth (TV Movie)
Five teenagers meet while sitting in detention and they end up forming a band. They become friends and a voice for the students who generally don’t have a say. It’s a great musical that shows the importance of sticking up for what it right. Netflix users have rated Lemonade Mouth 4.1 stars out of 5.
2. Annie (PG)
The musical Annie has been beloved by audiences for years and you can share this with your child on Netflix. The 1982 Special Anniversary Edition features Aileen Quinn as Annie, Carol Burnett as Miss Hannigan and Ann Reinking as Grace Farrell. Netflix users have given this version of Annie 4.1 stars out of 5.
1. The Muppet Christmas Carol (G)
There are quite a few Muppets movies on Netflix Instant and The Muppet Christmas Carol is one of them! Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear share their version of what happened to Mr. Scrooge. Netflix users have given the movie a rating of 4.4 stars out of 5.
There are quite a few older musicals available on Netflix, including Grease. I love watching musicals, but I don’t like wasting to trying to find one I’m interested in. I often look at the average rating from users and the rating Netflix predicts I would give a particular movie based on my interests.
