10 Great Christian Contemporary Easter Songs

Easter is a time to reflect on many aspects of my Christian walk, including Christ’s death and resurrection. What does this mean to me? I owe Christ so much and what He sacrificed makes it possible to have hope and continue moving forward when things may look bleak. Christ only walked this earth and actively ministered for three years, but his impact was unprecedented. He was human, which meant He endured temptation, pain and what must have seemed like torture at times. Think about Jesus’ many challenges. He focused on the greater good and the end outcome. How does this fit into your life? Do you focus on the end outcome while dealing with your daily struggles?

Here are 10 great Christian contemporary Easter songs to help put this in perspective as you reflect on Christ’s sacrifice.

10. “Anchor of Hope” by Ellie Holcomb

Favorite Lyrics

Marvelous, wonderful, infinite God
Author of all that is good
Faithful provider and giver of life
Source of all power and love

Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise
Refuge of strength to the end
Righteous redeemer and mighty to save
He's the anchor of hope for the souls of men

9. “In Christ Alone” by Owl City

Favorite Lyrics

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave he rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine -
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

8. “Crown Him (Majesty)” by Chris Tomlin with Kari Jobe

Favorite Lyrics

Crown Him Lord of life
Who triumphed o'er the grave
And rose victorious in the strife
For those He came to save;
His glories now we sing
Who died and rose on high
Who died eternal life to bring
And lives that death may die.

7. “Come However You Are” by City Harbor

Come however you are
Come with all your heart breaks
Come with all the mistakes you've made
Lay them down at the cross
Give them to the God who loves you
Hurt, scared, falling apart
Come however you are

6. “Your Great Name” by Natalie Grant

Favorite Lyrics

Jesus,
The name of Jesus,
You are high and lifted up and all the world will praise your great name
Jesus,
Worthy is the Lamb
That was slain for us,
Son of God and Man
You are high and lifted up and all the world will praise your great name, your great name, your great name

5. “Overwhelmed” by Big Daddy Weave

Favorite Lyrics

God, I run into Your arms
Unashamed because of mercy
I’m overwhelmed, I’m overwhelmed by You

Forgiven and free forever You’ll be my God

All that You’ve done is so overwhelming
I delight myself in You
In the Glory of Your Presence
I’m overwhelmed, I’m overwhelmed by You

4. “Christ Is Risen” by Matt Maher

Favorite Lyrics

Beneath the weight of all our sin
You bow to none but heavens will
No scheme of hell, no scoffer's crown
No burden great can hold you down
In strength you reign
Forever let your church proclaim

Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave

3. “Scandal of Grace” by Hillsong United

Favorite Lyrics

Oh to be like You
Give all I have just to know You
Jesus, there's no one besides You
Forever the hope in my heart

Death, where is your sting?
Your power is as dead as my sin
The cross has taught me to live
And mercy, my heart now to sing

2. “He Knows” by Jeremy Camp

Favorite Lyrics

He knows
He knows
Every hurt and every sting
He has walked the suffering
He knows
He knows
Let your burdens come undone
Lift your eyes up to the one
Who knows
He knows
He knows

We may faint and we may sink
Feel the pain and near the brink
But the dark begins to shrink
When you find the one who knows

1. “This Is Amazing Grace” by Phil Wickham

Favorite Lyrics

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy, worthy, worthy
Oh

Do you believe the words in these songs? Through Christ we have hope and He expects us to come as we are. Would your soul be fully clothed in royal attire or covered in tattered rags? He knows where you are and is ready and willing to raise you up. Reflect on this as Easter comes closer and ask Him to fill and restore you. What other songs do you love to hear for Easter?

I am a Christian writer and editor that lives in northern Michigan and thoroughly enjoy music, movies, TV shows, books and other entertainment with a Christian focus. My favorite song is "Oceans" by Hillsong United because it reminds me that has big plans for me and everyone else who puts their trust in Him. There are many movies that have impacted my life, but a few include God's Not Dead, The Shunning and Letters to God. When I'm not writing I enjoy watching movies and laughing with my busy toddler and husband.
