10 Hopeful Christian Songs For Cancer Patients

Sometimes just the right song can change your total outlook on life. For the cancer patient that song could truly brighten their day. It can put hope into an otherwise hopeless circumstance. For the Christian who suffers from cancer, though they have hope unlike the unbeliever they sometimes need a reminder. Here are 10 hopeful Christian songs for cancer patients. It is my prayer that they brighten your day. The songs are in no particular order, I cherish each one equally.

All My Hope (Jason Ingram & Reuben Morgan)

This lovely worshipful song was made popular by Hillsong and has been a favorite song full of hope for several years.

Favorite lyrics:

Light in my darkness

Peace for my soul

You are my rescue

You've never let go

In Christ Alone (Keith Getty & Stuart Townend)

Our only hope is found in Christ alone and that is exactly what this song is all about. I like how “Owl City” sings it. Some lyrics to meditate upon include:

In Christ alone my hope is found

He is my light my strength my song

This Cornerstone this solid Ground

Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love what depths of peace

When fears are stilled when strivings cease

My Comforter my All in All

Here in the love of Christ I stand

My Hope is in You (April Geesbreght)

There have been several songs with this same title. The one I speak of here is one that was written in 2010 by April Geesbreght. Aaron Shust recorded this one a couple years ago and it is the kind of song that gets immediately hidden in your heart. The Chorus is my favorite part and when I hear the song it stays with me “all the day long”.

Chorus:

My hope is in You Lord all the day long

I won't be shaken by drought or storm

A peace that passes understanding is my song

And I sing

My hope is in You Lord

"The Truth": Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. (Romans 15:13)

Rest in Me (Todd Vaters)

Another title that has many, many songs to go with it is “Rest in Me”. The one I list here is by an artist I discovered on the internet some time ago, Todd Vaters. His music is all very lovely and there is great hope in the lyrics as they are from God’s point of view.

Sample Lyrics:

Rest in Me

I am your Father

You’re my precious child

Be still before Me

Wait on Me awhile

Rest in Me

Crave (Joel & Luke Smallbone)

The brother duo of “For KING & COUNTRY” released a great song of hope in 2012. Some of the lyrics will really hit home for a terminally ill patient. The song personifies the “hope” that we all crave.

Sample Lyrics:

Hope is what we crave, and that will never change

So I stand and wait

I need a drop of grace to carry me today,

A simple song to say

It's written on my soul:

Hope's what we crave

The video below should warm your heart as you enjoy the harmonization of these two brothers.

Victory in Jesus (Eugene M. Bartlett)

This great hymn of faith has become a favorite in many churches. But have you considered the lyrics and what great hope is found in them? Take a look at just the chorus and really think about the blessing we have in Jesus and the hope of glory with him.

Chorus:

O victory in Jesus

My Savior forever

He sought me and bought me

With His redeeming blood

He loved me ere I knew Him

And all my love is due Him

He plunged me to victory

Beneath the cleansing flood

"The Truth": But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:57)

The Hurt and the Healer (Barry Graul | Bart Millard | Jim Bryson | Mike Scheuchzer | Nathan Cochran | Robby Shaffer)

MercyMe sings this prayerful ballad which offers some very hopeful lyrics as the singer cries out to Jesus with questions and then complete surrender.

Sample Lyrics:

Breathe

Sometimes I feel it's all that I can do

Pain so deep that I can hardly move

Just keep my eyes completely fixed on You

Lord take hold and pull me through

Jesus come and break my fear

Wake my heart and take my tears

Find Your glory even here

(When the hurt and the healer collide)

Beautiful Day (Christopher Stevens)

Jamie Grace released this single in 2013. Jamie is a young artist with lots of energy. This upbeat and joyful song will remind you that every day is a beautiful day when we remember whom we are serving. Enjoy the fun video.

Healing Begins (Jason Ingram | Jeff Owen | Mike Donehey)

Like some of the other songs listed here, this is a title that has been used for many. The one I am referring to has been made popular by the band “Tenth Avenue North”. When you listen to it you cannot help but remember how important it is to praise the Lord even in the hard times. My favorite lyrics are found in the chorus.

Chorus Lyrics:

I've seen joy and I've seen pain

And on my knees I call Your name

Here's my broken hallelujah

With nothing left to hold onto

I raise these empty hands to You

Here's my broken

Here's my broken hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah

Here's my broken hallelujah

Christ the Solid Rock (Public Domain)

This is my “go to” hymn when life takes over and I need to remember that “in Christ” I have all I need to face life’s trials and testings. It has become a favorite hymn for many and even a banner that speaks the very words of the gospel with a melody that remains in your heart.

Lyrics:

My hope is built on nothing less

Than Jesus' blood and righteousness

I dare not trust the sweetest frame

But wholly lean on Jesus' name

Chorus:

On Christ the solid rock I stand

All other ground is sinking sand

All other ground is sinking sand

When darkness veils His lovely face

I rest on his unchanging grace

In ev'ry high and stormy gale

My anchor holds within the veil

His oath His covenant His blood

Support me in the whelming flood

When all around my soul gives way

He then is all my hope and stay

When He shall come with trumpet sound

O may I then in him be found

Dressed in His righteousness alone

Faultless to stand before the throne

"The Truth": Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. (2 Timothy 2:19)

Keeping a song in your heart will bring continual hope when all seems lost. Knowing Jesus as your personal Savior guarantees that when you leave this life you will have life eternal in heaven with Him. Do you know Him?
