7 Underappreciated Christian Metal Bands & Artists

When someone asks me who I think are some of the most popular/talented Christian bands of all time, a few would automatically come to mind like August Burns Red, Stryper, Demon Hunter, and Tourniquet.  Those 4 bands have a huge fan base and for good reason.  They have made a HUGE impact on Christian metal!  There are so many amazing Christian metal bands, but not every band feels as much love and has as big of a fan base.

7 Underrated Metal Christian Bands

Here are 7 Christian metal bands that deserve way more appreciation then what they get!  I’ll insert some lyrics for each band too!  These are in no particular order.

Antestor

Antestor is a Norwegian band that plays death/doom metal with hints of thrash mixed in.  Their music is extremely heavy and melodic.  If you have not checked these guys out then do your ears a favor and do it!  Their vocals are heavy!  Their drummer plays some sick, intense patterns!  The solos are melodic and full of life!  And their lyrics are amazing!

Unchained – “I welcome this new reality and call it my own.  Rage because of you.  Hate because of you.  Fallen because of you.  Reborn because of you.  Forgiven and forgotten.”

Theocracy

Theocracy is a power metal band from Georgia.  They have released 3 studio albums to date.  Their first album, self-titled as ‘Theocracy’, was done completely by Matt Smith, their singer.  He wrote and played every instrument on it!  Then the band members joined in later.  They are one of my favorite bands and have impacted me a ton!  I have yet to see them live and that, my friends, would be a dream come true!

Laying The Demon To Rest – “As the battle rages on and on I face the things that put my faith to the test.  When fallen angels won't leave me alone, Father, come and lay the demon to rest.  When my sword has broken off in my hand, I see the dark futility of the flesh.  When I'm about to fall, please help me stand.  Father, come and lay the demon to rest.”

Golden Resurrection

Golden Resurrection is a neoclassical power metal band fronted by Christian Liljegren.  He is best known for his work in the band Narnia, but when he formed this band with Tommy ReinXeed (lead guitarist) he stepped out into an amazing journey.  This band has so much talent and I rarely hear them mentioned.  If you like power metal then these guys are a must!  Tommy ReinXeed's solos are flawless!

Identity In Christ – “I'm moving on (I'm moving on).  I'm moving on with the Spirit.  You gave me hope.   I found my identity in Christ.”

Wolves At The Gate

Wolves At The Gate is fairly new and they are growing to be noticed but I feel like they aren’t getting enough recognition.  I got to see them live a couple of years back and after the show, they were out back playing Frisbee and talked with me and my friends.  They are super laid back and solid Christians!  Their lyrics are on fire for God.  And they don’t hold anything back!

Wake Up – “The world is lining you up and bids you to come to live on the edge till your heart it is numb.  Lining you up and bids you farewell to look like the righteous but still live like hell.  Are we fighting?  Are we fighting or are we asleep?  Are we dying?  Are we dying to aid the sheep?”

Gideon

Gideon is solid, period.  Their music is driving and motivating.  The lyrics are intentional.  Their latest album, Calloused, is on my playlist daily.  They are growing to be noticed more as well, but they deserve so much more recognition.

Survive – “Fall, get up, repeat!  Keep moving!  Don't stop for anything!  Inhale the struggle; exhale the trouble!  Bear your cross with honor even when your knees buckle!  And don't forget where you came from!  Your determination will determine the man you become!”

Colossus

Colossus is very new and very good!  They released their 2nd album last year.  They tackle issues that plague our hearts and they give it all to God!

Approaching The throne – “Creator of heaven and earth, Your death is what animates me.  My name is written on His hands, my name is written on His heart.  He forged all of my plans from the very start.  From His love I will never depart.”

Fit For A King

Fit For A King is gaining more fans each day, but they are far from the appreciation they deserve.  They sound just as good live as they do on their albums.  And Ryan Joseph (lead vocals) is one of my absolute favorite front men!  Have you heard their song ‘Warpath’?  Well there is a very long scream at the end.  I mean decently long and he nails that scream live every time.  That takes some serious lung power!  Their breakdowns are always sick too!

Warpath – “My words may cut like daggers, but I wasn’t put here to keep my thoughts inside.  I AM THE ENEMY!”

Christian Metal Bands: Conclusion

These are 7 Christian metal bands that I feel are underappreciated or not well known. They are all amazing and worth looking into! God bless!
