8 Christian Songs That Will Bring You To Tears

Each believer follows one faith in one Lord through one Spirit and yet we each have our individual uniqueness when it comes to music. There are songs which bring me to my knees because of how much God loves me through difficulties. Other songs make the reality of His holiness in such a vibrant melody that I long to fall prostrate before Him. The following 8 Christian songs are a small variety that can move us to tears:

I Give Myself Away by William McDowell (2009)

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).

In this tender melody we are drawn to relinquish our rights and selfishness to surrender completely to God’s will. We aren’t forced to our knees—we willingly give Him everything for His purpose as a tribute of thankfulness for His grace and mercy on our lives. This song reminds us that true fulfillment is only found in Jesus’ purpose and plan for our lives.

Oceans (Where Feet may Fail) by Hillsong (2013)

“‘Come,’ he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus” (Matthew 14:29).

With this song my heart is gripped overwhelmingly with the challenge of trusting in God through great trials and tribulations. I want the security and certainty of living by what I see instead of taking the risk of faith in the oceans of uncertainty. This song brings me to the place of desiring my trust in God to be tested and grow so that I can become who He has called me to be in this lifetime.

Jesus be the Center by Israel Houghton and New Breed (2012)

“Yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live” (1 Corinthians 8:6).

There are many distractions on a daily basis that keep me from focusing on Jesus being the center of my life. Through this song a proclamation of commitment steadies my gaze on Christ and His glory instead of on myself. In the end, all that will matter is what I’ve done in His name and everthing else will fade away.

Worthy is the Lamb by Hillsong (2010)

“In a loud voice they were saying: ‘Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!’” (Revelation 5:12).

This song ignites passion in my soul when He will be high and lifted up—every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. Our Messiah is worthy of our praise and honor for His sacrifice for our sins. The awe of heaven will always surround Jesus and one day every believer will participate in this glorious event of worship.

O the Blood by Gateway (2010)

“ For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross” (Colossians 1:19-20).

How often do we reflect on the madness and insanity of our sinfulness? The Lord left His glorious and majestic throne to take on humanity so that we could be washed in His blood and stand in righteousness. The blood of Jesus is sacred and necessary for anyone wanting to be free from the entanglements of sin.

Your Grace Finds Me by Matt Redman (2013)

“But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it” (Ephesians 4:7).

God’s grace is big enough for the whole world. His great grace is generously poured out on mankind even to the remotest parts of the earth. This song brings home the enormity and preciousness of the undeserved and unmerited grace of God.

There’s Nobody like Jesus by Darwin Hobbs feat. Shirley Murdoch (2003)

“Who is like you, Lord God Almighty? You, Lord, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you” (Psalm 89:8).

We are privileged beyond our imagination to serve the One and True God of the universe. Our God sits high and looks low, but He is well acquainted with our joys and sorrows. Christians are blessed beyond measure to know and be known by Jesus Christ.

Cornerstone by Hillsong (2012)

“See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic” (Isaiah 28:16).

Christ is the Cornerstone of our faith keeping us steadfast in the Christian walk even in the storms of life. We can cling to the Rock that is higher than us for peace, refuge, comfort, or encouragement. The solidness of Christ keeps our feet steady so that we can overcome and live a purposeful life towards a heavenly dwelling.

Songs to Stir the Spirit towards Action

Our lives would be devoid of purpose if we only listened to these songs and never stepped out on faith because of them. We must be moved to tears that compel us to action in our faith walk. The lyrics of these songs weld in our hearts so that we never forget the God whom we serve or the reason we serve Him.
