8 Popular Christian Praise Songs

I am so glad to be alive in the era of praise music that is being written today. There are so many songs that have touched the hearts of many that have been written by God-fearing men and women. To pick only 8 of them was very tough. I could make a list of 50 and still struggle. I have chosen 8 praise songs that have really struck a nerve with me. I know I am among many believers who feel the same way. These are very popular songs and are sung in most modern day churches. If you have not heard of any one of them, I encourage you to find it and listen. “It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High.” (Psalm 92:1)

Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone) – Chris Tomlin

This song is really a masterpiece because Chris includes John Newton’s original last verse of “Amazing Grace” which was never sung before, that I can recall. “The Earth will soon dissolve like snow. The sun forbear to shine. But God who’s called me here below, will be forever mine.” These are absolutely beautiful words. I wonder why this was omitted from the original.

Grace Flows Down – Christy Nockels

This is such a beautiful song. Can you picture the grace of God flowing down from Heaven when you sing this song? The melody of the piano really takes you away into the presence of God as the lyrics “it covers me” keep repeating.

The Earth is Yours – Gungor

The title speaks for itself in this one. “Holy, Holy, Holy, Holy Lord. The earth is yours and singing, ‘Holy, Holy, Holy, Holy Lord. The earth is yours. The earth is yours.’”

“The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.” (Psalm 24:1-2)

Better is One Day – Matt Redman

“My heart and flesh cry out to you the Living God. Your Spirit’s water to my soul.” These are powerful words. Have you ever been dehydrated and tasted that first sip of water? It is the best thing you have ever tasted in that moment. That is what these lyrics mean. God’s Spirit is water to our soul. His Spirit nourishes us and It is the best thing for our spiritual bond between us and the Father.

“In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” (Romans 8:26 NASB)

Forever Reign – Hillsong

“My heart will sing no other name. Jesus. Jesus.” I can’t help but overflow with joy when I sing these words! As you listen to this song, sing with it or pray these words to God. There is a special bond that is nourished between us and the Father when we sing and pray to Him.

How He Loves – The David Crowder Band

This song really portrays the love that God has for us. One of my favorite lyrics is, “if grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.” God’s gives His grace so abundantly! The imagery is absolutely beautiful in this song. The first verse talks about us being a tree and God’s love is like a hurricane bending our branches. Our Father loves us so much that “He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord) – Matt Redman

I love this praise song! It showcases how awesome God is and how there are many reasons to praise Him.

My favorite lyric is “For all Your goodness I will keep on singing. Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find.”

Inside Out – Hillsong

This song is a praise of devotion to God, asking Him to cleanse us because He is everlasting.

One of my favorite lyrics in this song is, “In my heart and my soul, I give You control. Consume me from the inside out.”

We all need to tell God this daily. We all need to confess our sins to God and allow Him to wash us clean because of the blood shed at Calvary. Tell God how much you need Him when you listen to this song.

Conclusion

These eight songs speak volumes of truth when we sing them. I love singing in church because of the love that God has already shown me.

I would love to hear what some of your favorite praise songs are. God bless you all!
