Top 15 Christian Songs About Life

Life is a lesson. It's true! We live life constantly learning lessons from it. In the United States of America life is considered one of our unalienable rights. That means life cannot be sold. We have life on earth because God gave it to us. We can also have life everlasting because God offers that to us too. But even though eternal life is a gift to all, it had to be bought for us. The Bible teaches us that it is not about what we do because we cannot earn it. Instead, it is all about what Jesus already did by shedding His precious blood more than 2,000 years ago on the cross at Calvary. His blood for our life. That is something to sing about! Take a look at my top 15 Christian songs about life.

15. Basics of Life (Don Koch & Mark Harris)

Recorded and made popular by 4HIM, this is a song that we sang around the house when the kids were younger. I was saved later in life so this song, although it is no longer popular, has a powerful message for me. It is a great upbeat song with the following chorus:

“We need to get back to the basics of life. A heart that is pure and a love that is blind. A faith that is fervently grounded in Christ. The hope that endures for all time. These are the basics.

We need to get back to the basics of life. Oh oh”

14. Take My Life (Chris Tomlin , Frances Ridley Havergal, Henri Abraham Cesar Malan & Louie Giglio)

Using the lyrics of the great hymn of faith (Havergal/Malan), this song has been revived by Chris Tomlin and Louie Giglio. It is one that has been added back into the praise sets in many churches today.

13. Take My Life (Jean Luc Lajoie & Jeremy Camp)

Same title as #14 above, this is one of Jeremy Camp's most popular songs. It comes with heavy music as well as a title on three of his albums: Jeremy Camp Stay, Jeremy Camp Live and I Still Believe #1's Collection.

12. Life Itself (Aaron Shust)

Written and recorded by Aaron Shust this song tells of a love affair so strong that it consumes the life of the believer. This is the love that is found in Jesus – a love and life that says:

“No matter where I go. No matter where I stand. Your Spirit always speaks to me. And tells me Whose I am. With every breath I take. And every choice I make. My heart will always sing to You”

11. Life is Good (Adam Agee, Cody Pellerin, Jordan Messer & Taylor Sitera)

This is just a fun song, not only about life, but about the ultimate life – eternal life. Enjoy the video by Stellar Kart below.

10. Life of Praise (Mark Hall)

This is a great song that was recorded and made popular a bunch of youth pastors better known as Casting Crowns. It speaks of our awesome God and how in our heart of hearts we want to honor Him with our life of praise.

9. Save Your Life (Benjamin Clark, Bori Afolabi, Juan Otero & Seth Mosley)

It's not easy living a life dedicated to Christ. Sometimes “life” gets in the way and it gets hard. That is exactly what this song is about. Made popular by the Newsboys.

8. In Christ Alone (Keith Getty & Stuart Townend)

When you place your trust in Jesus Christ, that means that you place your life in His hands. You trust Him for everything. When you trust Christ alone nothing can nullify the promise of eternal life that you are given – you can count on it. The last verse in this beautiful ballad sums it all up:

“No guilt in life no fear in death. This is the power of Christ in me. From life's first cry to final breath. Jesus commands my destiny. No power of hell no scheme of man. Can ever pluck me from His hand. Till He returns or calls me home. Here in the power of Christ I'll stand”

7. Because He Lives (Gloria Gaither & William J. Gaither)

This one is becoming a classic – not quite a great hymn of faith but perhaps 50 years from now it will fall into that category. It is a song full of hope for every believer. It sings of the victory that we have over death because Jesus conquered it for us. “I know He holds the future and life is worth the living, just because He lives!”

6. It's Your Life (Francesca Battistelli & Ian Eskelin)

You will find this song on the sound track to “Soul Surfer”, the movie that chronicles the life of a young Christian lady named Bethany Hamilton. As a young teen Bethany was the victim of a shark attack in which she lost her left arm. Bethany went on to win surfing competitions despite all odds. She even reached her life goal to become a professional surfer in 2007. This is a great song about setting goals and achieving them. If your goal is to be a great inspiration to others like Bethany, remember that your heart can be an open door – the door to your life.

Favorite lyrics: “Say what you are and who your heart beats for. It's an open door. It's your life”

5. Everyday (Joel Houston)

Why do we even have life? We cannot explain the miracle that it takes to create human life. Nor can we explain nor understand why a sinless Jesus would give His own life as a ransom for our own. Even so, He did it and because of that the least we can do is live a life that is pleasing to Him. This is the message of Joel's song “Everyday” and this is our reasonable service. I especially like the lyrics of the chorus: “Everyday it's You I'll live for. Everyday I'll follow after You. Everyday I'll walk with You my Lord”.

TRUTH: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. (Romans 12:1)

4. Cry Out to Jesus (Brad Avery, David Carr, Mac Powell, Mark Lee & Tai Anderson)

This touching ballad, recorded by Third Day speaks of the ups and downs of life. It is an inspirational song that promises the hope, rest, love, grace, forgiveness and healing that can be found only in Jesus. “He'll meet you wherever you are … cry out to Jesus.”

3. Better Than Life (Cindy Cruse Ratcliff & Israel Houghton)

This is a fantastic, upbeat gospel song that praises the Lord for His lovingkindness that is so much better than life. This song is about “the Life”. Jesus said “... I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)

Favorite Lyrics: “Jesus Your lovingkindness. Is better than life itself.”

2. My Life is in Your Hands (Kirk Franklin)

Kirk Franklin and the choir sing of the confidence we have in our friend Jesus. No matter what life has to hand us, our life is in His hands. I like the chorus to this one best:

Favorite Lyrics: “(Oh) I know that I can make it. I know that I can stand. No matter what may come my way. My life is in Your hands. With Jesus I can take it. With Him I know I can stand. No matter what may come my way. My life is in Your hands.”

1. Jesus Paid it All (Elvina Mabel Hall & John Thomas Grape)

This beloved hymn reminds us of what it took to give us life, and life eternal. It was the price that Jesus paid, with His life. Because of what He did we can boldly sing “Sin had left a crimson stain; He washed it white as snow”.
