Top 25 Christian Songs Named for Bible Verses - Scripture Inspired Hymns

I love to reference a verse from the Bible when I write about Christian songs. But even better than that, I enjoy finding Christian songs that are titled after Bible verses.

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God." ~ Colossians 3:16

25 Best Bible Verse Songs

In this article, I have listed what I believe to be the top 25 Christian songs titled after Bible verses. I have included some great hymns of faith that have stood the test of time as well as some contemporary Christian songs that I think will stay at the top of the list for many years to come.

25. I Will Sing of the Mercies (Bryce Inman, James Henry, Sr. Fillmore Word Music Group)

(Psalms 89:1 KJV) I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.

24. Blessed be Your Name (Beth & Matt Redman)

(Nehemiah 9:4-6 KJV) Then stood up upon the stairs, of the Levites, Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani, and cried with a loud voice unto the LORD their God. Then the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said, Stand up and bless the LORD your God for ever and ever: and blessed be thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise. Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.

23. Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho (Public Domain)

(Joshua 6:20 KJV) So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

22. The Lord is My Shepherd (Jeremy Riddle)

(Psalms 23:1 KJV) The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

21. Revelation Song (Revelation 4:8 KJV) (Jennie Lee Riddle)

Of course, this title has an entire Bible chapter that matches it. I find the following verse to be a great description of the song:

(Revelation 4:8) And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him, and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, LORD God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

The next three songs have the same title and the title and the lyrics are right out of Isaiah 40:

20. Everlasting God (Brenton Brown & Ken Riley )

19. Everlasting God (Glenn Packiam)

18. Everlasting God (Gayle Newton & Sara Burton )

(Isaiah 40:21-23) Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.

(Isaiah 40:28 KJV) Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

17. Your Grace is Enough (Matt Maher)

This is a lovely contemporary song whose title is not exactly – word for word -- from a Bible verse, however, I find that the title agrees with what Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 12:9 about grace being sufficient. I also like Psalm 23:2 and Lamentations 3:22-23 which closely resemble the lyrics. See if you agree:

(2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV) And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Lyrics: “You lead us by still waters into mercy”

(Psalms 23:2) He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

Lyrics: “Great is Your faithfulness O God”

(Lamentations 3:22-23) It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

16.Forever [Give Thanks to the Lord] (Chris Tomlin)

The words “for ever” appear in the King James Bible nearly 450 times so I looked to the lyrics of this popular contemporary worship song to find what I believe are the theme verses.

(Jeremiah 31:3) The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.

(Psalms 30:12 KJV) To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.

15. Faith is the Victory (Betty Carr Pulkingham, Ira David Sankey, John H. Yates)

(1 John 5:4 KJV) For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

14. Are You Washed in the Blood (Elisha Albright Hoffman)

(Revelation 1:5 KJV) And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

(Revelation 7:14 KJV) And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

13. Before the Throne of God Above (Charitie Lees Bancroft)

(Hebrews 4:16 KJV) Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

12. Christ the Lord is Risen Today (Charles Wesley)

(Matthew 28:6 KJV) He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

11. Crown Him with Many Crowns (Public Domain)

(Revelation 12-13 KJV) His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

10. I Know Whom I Have Believed (Public Domain)

(2 Timothy 1:12 KJV) For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

9. Days of Elijah (Robin Mark)

(Luke 4:25 ESV) But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;

8. How Great is Our God (Chris Tomlin, Ed Cash, Jesse Reeves)

(2 Chronicles 2:5 KJV) And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods.

7. O Praise Ye the Lord (Public Domain)

(Psalms 111:1 KJV) Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.

6. Praise Him, Praise Him (Public Domain)

(Psalms 150:2 KJV) Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.

5. Great is Thy Faithfulness (Thomas Obediah Chisholm & William Marion Runyan)

(Lamentations 3:20-23 KJV) This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

4. Cleanse Me (J. Edwin Orr & Marty Parks)

(Psalms 139:23-24 KJV) Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

3. Mighty to Save (Ben Fielding & Reuben Morgan)

(Isaiah 63:1 ESV) Who is this who comes from Edom, in crimsoned garments from Bozrah, he who is splendid in his apparel, marching in the greatness of his strength? It is I, speaking in righteousness, mighty to save.”

2. Whom Shall I Fear [God of Angel Armies] (Chris Tomlin, Ed Cash, Scott Cash)

(Psalms 27:1 KJV) The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

1. Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty (Public Domain)

One of the most popular Christian hymns of all time has a title that includes words from the prophets. One day all believers will sing with the heavenly hosts when “...early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee. Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty, God in three Persons blessed Trinity”.

(Isaiah 6:3 KJV) And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

(Revelation 4:8 KJV) And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, LORD God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
